‘He’s Like Wolverine’: Kanye West Predicts Drake’s Comeback After Kendrick Lamar’s Victory

Just when you thought the dust had settled on one of rap’s biggest feuds, Kanye West has weighed in. The ever-controversial rap icon offered his thoughts on the recent lyrical showdown between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, warning that despite suffering a brutal defeat, the 6 God might not be down for the count just yet.

During a Grammys afterparty interview with Justin Laboy in Los Angeles on the 2nd of February, Ye reflected on Kendrick’s decisive win with his signature blend of humour.

“I was like, ‘Man, you killed my nemesis. Where’s the movies if it ain’t no Drake?’” Kanye quipped, laughing. “Or at least he took him down for a little bit. Maybe it’s like in superhero films where characters like Wolverine or something just go away for a couple films.”

When asked if Kendrick had truly “killed” Drake, the G.O.O.D. Music founder didn’t hesitate: “Yeah, for now. But you can’t ever count out Steph Curry. That man might get 200 points in one song.”

West also acknowledged Drake’s impact on the rap game, stating: “Drake added something to the algorithm. He advanced it, Future advanced it, and now Kendrick is advancing the frequency. If you don’t really learn, as a professional rapper in this sport, what Kendrick is doing, you might be wiped out.”

Kanye and Drake’s relationship has been a rollercoaster ride spanning over 15 years, shifting from collaborators to bitter rivals and back again. But that didn’t stop Yeezy from jumping into the fray when Drake and Kendrick went head-to-head last year.

Ye made his presence felt by dropping a scathing remix of Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick’s track “Like That,” taking aim at both Drake and J. Cole. In classic Kanye fashion, he didn’t hold back, rapping: “Where’s Lucian? Serve your master, n-gga / You caught a little bag for your masters, didn’t ya? / Lifetime deal, I feel bad for n-ggas / Y’all so outta sight, outta mind / I can’t even think of a Drake line / Play J. Cole, get the pussy dry.”

And he didn’t stop there. Shortly after, Ye doubled down in another interview with Laboy, dismissing Drake’s bars entirely: “Every bar that Drake said means nothing anymore. Drop and give me—ain’t nobody gonna drop and do shit. Your raps don’t mean shit, n-gga.”
