Joe Budden has never been one to bite his tongue, and his latest response to Drake proves just that. The former rapper-turned-podcast king found himself the unexpected star of a slow-motion Instagram clip, courtesy of a Drake-associated Finsta account (@plottttwistttttt).
The video, showing Budden stepping out of a car while puffing on a smoke, was soundtracked by Lil Wayne’s introspective track “Let It All Work Out” from Tha Carter V—a choice that had the internet buzzing.
Naturally, Budden had some things to get off his chest.
“Hey, Drake, don’t shoot at me mad that you ice cold,” he quipped on a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, making it clear he has no interest in engaging in a drawn-out feud. “I’m not doing a back-and-forth with a corpse. I wanted to do it when it was fun. Don’t go get shot all through the year and then pop up like Bernie at Weekend at Bernie’s wanting to shoot at me now. No, n***a. Go spin. Spin the fucking block. … Are you crazy?”
While Budden’s history with the 6 God is well-documented—who could forget his 2016 diss tracks?—their latest friction seems to stem from more recent drama. Earlier this year, Budden referred to Drake as a “Karen” over his lawsuit against UMG regarding the viral hit “Not Like Us.” Now, with the IG drama in full swing, Budden is making it clear that he’s not here for the antics.
“I just seen that shit,” he said in response to the clip. “99 n***as done jumped on your ass. You out smoking hookah in turquoise boots. Don’t post me. Go get your fucking lick back.”
Of course, in true Budden fashion, he did offer a rare moment of praise, stating, “I like Drake with the melodies,” referring to the highly anticipated collaboration between Drizzy and PARTYNEXTDOOR. But he didn’t let the compliment linger for too long before doubling down on his take.
“That n***a dead as could be,” he said, referencing the fallout from Drake’s battle with Kendrick Lamar. “He’s dead as a doornail. It’s dead. Everybody left. I left. It’s just you and Ak now. You, Ak, and Adin.”
