South Africa is mourning the loss of beloved comedian, actor, and writer Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, who passed away at the age of 31.
His management team, Pickled Ginger Agency, released a statement expressing their deep sadness over his untimely death.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of celebrated comedian, actor, and writer Ebenhaezer Dibakwane,” the agency said. “A friend to so many, he will be remembered for his off-the-wall humor, original style of stand-up comedy, and the joy he brought to audiences across South Africa.”
Born in 1994, Ebenhaezer gained national recognition early in his career when he won the Savanna Comics’ Choice Newcomer of The Year Award. His talent was further acknowledged when he won a second Savanna Comics’ Choice Award for Intermediate Comedian of The Year.
He was also nominated for two other Comics’ Choice Awards, solidifying his status as a rising star in the comedy world.
Known for his infectious personality and unique comedic style, Ebenhaezer was loved by many. His passing has left a void in the South African entertainment industry, and his fans are deeply saddened by the loss.
Ebenhaezer was also highly regarded for his writing talents, receiving a nomination for a SAFTA (South African Film and Television Award) for Best Achievement in Scriptwriting.
His acting career spanned various roles, including appearances in Divorced at 50, Real Estate Sisters, and Miseducation. He made his television debut in 2015, guest starring as a film crew director on the e.tv soapie Ashes to Ashes. The following year, he became a presenter on the popular SABC1 show Walala Wasala.
The Dibakwane family has expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received during this difficult time. Memorial and funeral service details will be shared in due course.
Ebenhaezer’s legacy will live on through his work, and he will be sorely missed by the comedy community and fans alike.
