As wildfires swept through parts of Cape Town over the weekend, Rachel Kolisi offered a deeply personal glimpse into the chaos unfolding around her. With flames creeping dangerously close to her home near Tokai, the mother, entrepreneur, and wife of Springbok captain Siya Kolisi took to Instagram to share her experience—and her gratitude.
“The season that keeps giving
We are all safe (thank God), our home is safe. So grateful for our firefighters, community and SPECIALLY @carliannsmithy and Dale – honestly no way I would have managed the last 24 hours without you
Exhausted, and hope I’m not speaking too soon but I think the worst is over.”

Over 100 firefighters were deployed to contain the blazes that broke out late Friday, affecting areas including Upper and Lower Tokai, Noordhoek, Steenberg Estate, Ou Kaapse Weg, and Clovelly.
By Sunday, the fire had forced the evacuation of the Noordhoek retirement village, as emergency crews worked around the clock to manage flare-ups fuelled by wind and dry vegetation. The situation remained tense through Monday evening.
