After a five-year silence, South African singer-songwriter Samthing Soweto returns with a brand-new album, Touch Is a Move, Good Morning, out July 4. With his distinct voice and heartfelt songwriting, he once again welcomes fans into his soulful world — where warmth, tradition, and vulnerability lead the way.
The title blends two personal rituals: “Touch Is a Move” refers to a childhood rule — once you touch a piece in a game, you must move — while “Good Morning” comes from his 2023 habit of greeting fans daily, a quiet act of connection.
The first single, “Deda,” is out now. Produced by John Lundun, it’s a gentle, poetic plea inspired by the Nguni proverb “mabudede ubumnyama buvele ukukhanya” — “let the darkness retreat so that light may come.” It tells the story of loving someone drawn to nightlife while praying for their safe return.
“Deda” follows the success of “Amagents,” a double-platinum anthem from 2022 offering a father’s advice to his daughter. Both songs feature on the upcoming album, hinting at a deeply personal and resonant body of work.
From his roots with The Soil, to the global hit “Akanamali,” to his genre-blending debut Isiphithiphithi, Samthing Soweto continues to evolve. With Touch Is a Move, Good Morning, he’s ready to light up the world once again ebru-art.
