Black Coffee Foundation Continues to Make a Difference in Mthatha

In the wake of the devastating floods that recently displaced hundreds of families in Mthatha, the Black Coffee Foundation is still at the forefront of providing urgent relief and long-term support to the affected communities. The initiative, launched on 11 June, is part of the Foundation’s continued mission to uplift vulnerable communities, particularly during extreme winter conditions.

The Eastern Cape, already one of the hardest-hit regions by climate-related disasters, was struck by devastating floods, leaving many Mthatha residents without shelter, food, and basic resources. Recognising the scale of the crisis, the Black Coffee Foundation acted swiftly, mobilising a coalition of partners and community supporters to deliver critical aid.

Over R500 000 in donations was raised, enabling the Foundation to coordinate the distribution of food parcels, warm clothing, hygiene kits, and other essential supplies. Working alongside Feed the Nation, Hollywoodbets Foundation, Nando’s, Sompire, BidAir Cargo, and NGL Logistics Group, the Black Coffee Foundation ensured that immediate relief reached those in need.

Lungie Maphumulo, CEO of the Black Coffee Foundation, commented, “This is more than a relief effort. It’s a call to action for everyone to support communities in times of crisis. The Eastern Cape holds deep meaning for us, and we are incredibly grateful for the support from our partners and donors.”

While the immediate relief provided much-needed assistance, the Foundation is committed to supporting long-term recovery in the region. The Foundation has pledged to help rebuild livelihoods and improve local infrastructure, ensuring that the people of Mthatha can recover and thrive despite the challenges they face.

“The impact we seek comes through sustained action,” Maphumulo added. “This is not a one-off campaign—it’s part of our broader mission to continue showing up for the communities that need us most.”

Through this initiative, the Black Coffee Foundation has highlighted the power of collaboration and the importance of ongoing support in times of crisis. With more partners and donors needed to support continued efforts, the Foundation calls on individuals and organisations to join in making a lasting difference.
