Boom Shaka, Khuli Chana & More Heat Up Basha Uhuru!

The much-anticipated Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival is back at Johannesburg’s Constitution Hill, bringing a jam-packed celebration of youth, creativity, and culture. This year, the festival steps up its game with a new set of exciting programs, including the Sounds of Freedom Music Festival on September 13. The festival’s theme, “Celebrating the Legacy of Creative Expression”, promises to showcase the vibrant and ever-evolving role of youth in the creative and social economies.

The Sounds of Freedom Concert is set to feature an electrifying lineup of artists, including Khuli Chana, Pabi Cooper, Mthandeni SK, Kid Fonque, Lamiez Holworthy, Toss, DJ Cndo, Jahseed & Admiral, Que DJ, and a special performance by the 2025 Basha Uhuru Sounds of Freedom Legacy Award Winners: Boom Shaka!

For the first time ever, the festival will also host a fashion show presented by the Sophie Ndaba Fashion Hub, making this year’s event one for the history books.

The festival kicks off at 10:00 with a day filled with live local talent, the Curated Makers Market, and rich cultural experiences, leading into the fashion show at 18:00. The show will highlight emerging designers alongside renowned South African fashion icons, all to the beats of celebrated designer/DJ Maria McCloy in a unique fusion of fashion and music.

Sophie Ndaba, the founder of the Sophie Ndaba Fashion Hub, emphasised that the fashion show is not just a display of clothes, but a celebration of creativity, culture, and collaboration. The Hub, which she founded in June 2025 at the Business of Fashion conference, is dedicated to mentoring South Africa’s emerging design talent, helping them build sustainable businesses and gain international exposure.

Leah Mabusela, CEO of Constitution Hill, expressed her excitement, saying, “We’re proud to be contributing to the community and creativity through Basha Uhuru. The Sounds of Freedom concert is not only about showcasing local talent but also bringing some of Mzanzi’s biggest artists to the stage. This festival is a space where creativity truly thrives, and we invite everyone to join us for an unforgettable experience.”
