Funeral sector threatens to strike

Over 3,000 funeral industry employees are expected to down tools from Monday.

They have vowed not to collect corpses after the government failed to respond to their demands.

Funeral parlour directors are demanding the outsourcing of mortuary facilities to be recognized and legalized.

They also want the amendment of by-laws by municipalities to enable cluster storages.

The Health Department recorded 49 new COVID-19 deaths in South Africa, taking the total number of fatalities to 15,427.
