1,573 new COVID-19 cases recorded in SA

Active COVID-19 cases in South Africa are now below 50,000. But the country continues to record new cases on a daily basis.

The health department recorded 1,573 cases in the last 24 hours. The death toll now stands at 16,976 after 38 more people died of COVID-19.

One person died in the Western Cape and 37 in Gauteng. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is 681,289.

Recoveries now stand at 614,781 which translates to a recovery rate of 90 percent.
