Students at Wits held a night vigil for Mthokozisi Ntumba on Thursday night. The 35-year-old man was fatally shot on Wednesday. He was leaving a clinic in Braamfontein.
Police were trying to disperse protesting Wits University students. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been tasked with probing the incident.
President Cyril Ramaphosa says Ntumba’s death is deeply disturbing. Students say the police gave no warning before firing rubber bullets and stun grenades.
