The Kitchen & Culinary Assistant will support the Kitchen Manager & Culinary Program Lead in successfully leading the daily operations of the shared commercial kitchen space as well as the culinary aspect of the Kitchen Incubator training program.
The incumbent will be expected to assist with running a fully licensed and equipped commercial kitchen and demo kitchen space. The Kitchen & Culinary Assistant will also help with managing kitchen staff, ensuring hygiene protocols, managing inventory, daily kitchen set up as well as assisting entrepreneurs, organizations or other clients with kitchen use and equipment.

Grade 12
Culinary Qualification would be advantageous
The following experience requirements were found to be relevant to this job:
2+ Years’ experience in a professional kitchen at a Management level
1 Year experience in a reputable restaurant or hotel kitchen – Foodservice

Assist with implementing the Incubator Culinary Program
Assist with on-site training programs for entrepreneurs
Provide culinary and food industry expertise
Collect feedback and provide input into curriculum where relevant
Assist with the Management of Entrepreneur
Assist with the recruitment and selection of entrepreneurs to ensure a balanced cohort that utilizes the space efficiently
Collaboratively guide, lead and mentor entrepreneurs within the commercial kitchen space
Collaboratively coach entrepreneurs through curriculum assignments, objectives, and day-to day hands-on operations
Provide technical and general 1-on-1 support to entrepreneurs as needed
Operational Kitchen Management
Oversees the operation and management of all equipment, facility, utilities, and general kitchen use
Assist in training entrepreneurs and clients on SOP’s, Health & Safety, and scheduling
Enforce sanitary food handling methods and kitchen use policies and procedures
Ensure proper functioning of equipment and cleaning of kitchen, coordinate with cleaning staff and maintenance as necessary
Overseeing and enforcing proper use and organization of cold and dry storage
Ensure all users keep kitchen clean and organized
Monitor the disposal of food and other waste, making sure it is disposed of properly and finding opportunities to reduce waste, recycle, compost, and upcycle
Demo Kitchen
Coordinate partnerships and kitchen set up per event
Assist and host demonstrations – either as activations or classes for Makers Landing
Coordinate kitchen rental time and class check-ins
Ensure proper functioning of equipment and cleaning of kitchen
Coordinate with cleaning staff and maintenance as necessary
Administration
Work with Culinary lead to follow up on the following:
Manage stock of hygiene supplies, consumables, and basic ingredients
Assist with daily and monthly inventory of equipment and small wares
Uphold SOP’s and Health and Safety certifications
Take regular inventory of equipment and small wares
Financial Management
Assist with ensuring sustainability and meeting of financial targets
Provide input into preparing, monitoring, and reporting on annual budgets. Apply Now
