Western Cape Police Commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, has activated an intensified 72-hour plan in Khayelitsha in Cape Town.
It comes after 11 people were shot dead in the area.
Police believe the spate of murders were in retaliation to the murder of a man earlier in the day.
His body was found with a gun and a substantial amount of cash.
While the shootings took place in different parts of the township, police believe they are all linked.
Police are investigating the matter and are calling on anyone who has information to come forward.
