Early Life

He was born in 1991 and was named Bonko Khoza. He was spent his childhood days in Johannesburg, South Africa. For him, his love for art, especially drama and live performance, could be traced back to his years as a teenager.

While in school, he landed a role in production including as “Captain Hook“. The role earned him recognition – “Regional Drama Awards

The Wife

The role he plays is called Mqhele Zulu, the second child his parents out of eight brothers. His family is known for their notoriousness and they are active in the crime and taxi business.

The family is led by Nkosana (Mondli Makhoba). In The Wife, Mqhele Zulu fell in love with Hlomu. Love, at first sight, is the only word to qualify the feeling after she saw her at the tax rank, and when he approached her. 

In a bid to convince her, he bought her ice cream, ladies always love to play hard to get regardless.

However, Mqhele Zulu is not the only member of his family to fall in love with the beautiful lady – Hlomu. Qhawe (Kwenzo Ngcobo), his younger brother, had met her earlier.

Although Qhawe could get the lady’s phone number, his older brother got the key to her heart.

Trying to get the attention of her boyfriend who paid more attention to his work made Hlomu fall in love with another. Mqhele managed to make her fall in love with him after her boyfriend Sandile (Kay Sibiya) choose to work over her. Capitalizing on what, you may call “his weakness, Mqhele stole the key to Hlomu’s heart from Sandile.

Personal life

Bonko Khoza got married on 13 March 2021 to the love of his life and childhood friend Lesego Khoza. The couple exchanged their marriage vows in a colorful ceremony.

Career

The actor had appeared in many other roles before Mqhele Zulu in The Wife. He was cast as ‘Jabz’ in the critically acclaimed cult film Necktie Youth. His exceptional portrayal of the show made him a nominee for the Best Actor at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival.

Since then, he has made other appearances on the History Channel remake of the acclaimed miniseries Roots (2016). In 2018, he was also cast in the American Feature Film Beautifully Broken.

In 2020, Bonko Khoza appeared in Professionals, and in the following year, he was cast in The Mauritanian (2021). He played the supporting lead role in the Netflix Series The Brave Ones.

He has appeared in many serials and films alongside notable and celebrated personalities home and abroad. He is also a Voice-over artist and has worked with top brands both home and abroad.
