Only 10% of elderly people vaccinated in Northern Cape

Access to vaccination sites is proving to be a challenge in the Northern Cape where the province has pinned its hopes on administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

These delays mean fewer elderly people -deemed high-risk – are being vaccinated.

Eight vaccination sites have been opened in the Northern Cape but only 10-percent of the elderly have received their jabs.

Not having the Johnson & Johnson vaccine means 22 sites couldn’t operate at the start of Phase 2.

The MEC says the Northern Cape will be first in line to get the J&J vaccine when it is eventually released but the province has more hurdles to overcome.

While the Northern Cape remains in the grip of the third wave, the good news is that the number of COVID-19 cases reported are dropping.
