The Gauteng government wants the province to have tighter lockdown restrictions.
The province is making up around half of daily new infections of COVID-19 in the country.
The acting Health Minister says she’ll talk to the National Coronavirus Command Council about the issue.
Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane has visited a vaccination site at the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital.
Gauteng premier David Makhura said the province is asking for increased measures.
“Level 2 as we know it currently is not having a sufficient impact,” he said.
“People are going on as if we are really not in the middle of a raging pandemic.”
