Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rulani Mokwena heading to Ugandan club this week

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has received an invitation to visit Uganda on a mission to share ideas with one of the country’s football giants.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA FC) have confirmed the invite and that the 2021/22 DStv Premiership Coach of the Season will be hosted in the East African country.

Mokwena’s visit was facilitated by the Brazilians’ number one keeper and skipper Denis Onyango who hails from Uganda.

The club has since announced the news through their website, confirming that Mokwena will be in the country between 17 and 22 June.

“Mamelodi Sundowns co-Head Coach Rulani Mokwena will pay a courtesy visit to KCCA FC for one week,” announced KCCA.

“The South African professional football manager will be in Uganda from 17th – 22nd June 2022.

“The former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United Coach is coming purposely for knowledge sharing with the technical team of KCCA FC.

“Rulani has been invited by the KCCA FC management and this is in line with the Club’s Five Years Strategic Plan under the Key Result area 5 which is Strategic Partnerships and Alliances.

“Ex-Uganda Cranes skipper Denis Onyango who is also a player at Mamelodi Sundowns FC has been a key factor in ensuring Rulani’s visit to KCCA FC comes to life.”

In other news regarding Mokwena’s future, SuperSport United are reportedly eyeing him as a qualified candidate to fill the coaching void left by axed Kaitano Tembo.

Tembo has since joined Sekhukhune United and the club appointed ex-Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Andre Arendse to lead the club on an interim basis.

“Rulani has made the shortlist. The management likes him and the direction is that the club needs a young coach with fresh ideas,” said the source as per The South African.

“SuperSport knows it won’t be easy to convince Rulani to come out of his comfort zone at Sundowns, and the club might not be willing to release him but the management is confident he could be the right man for the job.”
