Manchester United Have announced yet another departure as they loaned out Cote d’Ivoire international Eric Bailly for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.
The 28-year-old has been shipped out to join French Ligue1 side, Olympique Marseille, and the club will take care of his salary.
Bailly’s future has been a subject of speculation in recent times after he was linked with English Premier League side, West Ham United, but he opted to go to France.
On the other hand, AS Monaco were reportedly keen to sign him but Marseille eventually won the race for the centre back’s signature.
“Good luck for the 2022/23 season at Marseille, @EricBailly24,” posted the club.
Entertainment SA has gathered that the deal includes an obligation to buy the Elephants star for €10 million (R169 million) if manager Igor Tudor’s team qualifies for next season’s UEFA Champions League and he plays a certain number of games.
KickOff reports that in the wake of signings such as Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Raphael Varane, Bailly’s future was in doubt.
Furthermore, his chances to remain a regular at Old Trafford were also affected by injuries as he missed more than 100 matches through his six years at the Red Devils to date, according to Transfermarkt.
In the past few months, the club parted ways with midfielder Paul Pogba who has since joined Italian Serie A giants, Juventus.
Remaining with manager Erik ten Hag’s side, the Manchester-based side have captured former Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro who has signed a four-year deal with the club.
He was officially unveiled on Monday night just prior to their 2-1 win over rivals, Liverpool, but he is expected to make his debut this weekend.
