‘After me was Davido’ – Singer Mr May D reveals he brought Amapiano to Nigeria

Singer, Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as Mr May D, has said he was the one that introduced the amapiano genre of music to the Nigerian music industry.

the genre is distinguished by high-pitched piano melodies, Kwaito basslines, low-tempo 90s South African house rhythms, and percussions from another local subgenre of house music known as Bacardi, characterized by synths and airy pads.

Some fans had credited Davido for being the pioneer of Amapiano in Africa before Wizkid and Burna Boy jumped on the South African sound which has generated heavy debate online.

Weighing in on the controversy, May D declared that he brought Amapiano to Nigeria and he has awards to show for it.

Tweeting on Wednesday, May D said, “Na me bring Amapiano come Naija and I have awards to prove that. We started the South African collaboration! I don’t like saying sh*t like this but y’all like putting me under the box.”

In a follow-up post, he blasted the Twitter users criticizing his stance on the matter.

“Don’t have time to hate, just spitting facts that’s all, you can insult me all you want, really don’t care we legends out there,” he added.

Reacting, Davido took to the comment section of an Instagram blog that shared the news and where he left a remark.
