Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer, Harrison Tare Okiri, professionally known as Harrysong, has been arrested and detained by the Lagos State Police Command.
The Reggae Blues crooner was arrested on Tuesday in Lagos shortly after landing at the Muritala International Airport after returning from a trip, following a petition sent to the Inspector General of Police IGP, Usman Baba-Alkali, by Nigerian music producer and artist manager, Soso Soberekon.
Soso Soberekon, according to Harrysong, made an attempt on his life some time ago. He revealed this during an interview on the podcast “Frankly Speaking.”
In his reaction, Soberekon on his Instagram page slammed Harrysong with a lawsuit. And demanded a retraction of the statement.
He said “As a matter of fact, I always mind my business, stay in my lane and put smiles on people’s faces. It is very disappointing that Harrysong will make such a false, reckless and defamatory statement.”
Soberekon, in the petition written to the Inspector General of Police on his behalf, said: “Our client has consequently directed us to request for a retraction of the said publication and an apology to be published in two newspapers and several online news millets not later than seven days of the delivery of this letter and also the payment of the sum of N500,000,000.00 (Five Hundred Million Naira) as damages and compensation for the malicious publications made against our client.
11, October marked the 7-day ultimatum given to Harrysong to meet the demands contained in the letter or face a legal suit. It’s unlikely whether the arrest is in conjunction with the letter written addressed to him by Soberekon’s lawyer.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the arrest.
