Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi says the Soweto giants must not renew Khama Billiat’s contract as he doesn’t deserve it.
Baloyi says Billiat is not rewarding the club for having shown faith in his abilities after he was retained following a massive exodus last season.
The man also known as Spiderman, Baloyi, insists that if his former club decides to keep the Zimbabwean striker, the contract must be completely changed and be based on performance.
Biiliat joined Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018 where he came with a lot of expectations at Naturena after a number of successful seasons at Chloorkop.
Despite regularly finding the back of the net under coach Pitso Mosimane, Billiat also lifted major titles such as the Absa Premiership, CAF Champions League, Telkom Knockout, and the Super Cup.
His form, however, has gone down in the last three seasons and this season the Zimbabwean star has played 11 games and made three assists for Chiefs.
Baloyi, who also turned out for Sundowns during his prime, reckons Billiat’s displays in the previous term and in this current campaign do not guarantee him a contract renewal at Chiefs when it expires in June 2023.
“I was Khama’s fan five years ago, but I don’t know what is happening with his contribution today, whether it’s an injury or other things,” said Baloyi per Phakaaathi.
“But realistically, this season and the last season don’t guarantee him renewal of a contract.
“Someone like that, for me, I would say, if he really wants to stay and if you want to keep him, then put him on a different contract,” said Baloyi, who played for Chiefs from 1993 to 2004.
“In that way, if he shows that he wants to stay at the club, then you put him on a performance contract. Besides that, I will say no (to a new contract).”
On top of that, legend Mlungisi Ngubane recently told Robert Marawa on Marawa Sports Worldwide, that Billiat might have cheated his age considering his below-par performances.
“He cannot be earning so much (money) but not performing on the field,” Ngubane said.
“There is definitely something wrong. It is either he is really unhappy, he doesn’t sleep enough, and he parties all night, or he cheated (his) age.”
