In her most recent social media post, poet Ntsiki Mazwai has seemingly irked the transgender community after saying they are threatening women’s rights.
Mazwai headed to Twitter and said nobody has to believe what they believe but she later apologised and deleted the post.
The controversial social activist was forced to swallow her words after she said trans rights threatened women’s rights.
The poet recently deleted and apologised for her statement after trans and gender-diverse organisations lashed out at her for what they believed was an irresponsible statement.
“We, as organisations who exist to ensure that the human rights of all members of the LGBTIQ community are respected and upheld, call on Mazwai to remove this dangerous post and apologise to the trans community,” said the transgender community.
“Despite societal perceptions and attitudes that force transgender women at the margins of society, transgender women are women. We have always been part of African cultures and history, and therefore our existence will never be erased.”
Despite her apology, Mazwai’s stance is that transgender women are “men who have transitioned”, and not entirely women.
She argued that trans women were “erasing women”, as she referred to United States reality TV star and retired Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete Caitlin Jenner transitioning.
“Beauty pageant…sports…it’s not only Caitlin Jenner…She is just an example. And in the past this didn’t happen as it’s human doctors who do this,” she said.
“You can’t force feed what you believe…nobody has to believe in what you believe.”
Meanwhile, Entertainment SA previously reported that if there’s one person capable of getting under people’s skin is Mazwai.
A week does not pass by without her tweeting something that will spark outrage and controversy. Ntsiki recently expressed her dislike for Elon Musk after he bought Twitter.
Taking to Twitter, the South African TV personality said there is something off about his energy, hence she doesn’t like the South African-born entrepreneur.
