As they revived their DStv Premiership season, Orlando Pirates have bolstered their ranks by signing a Cameroonian striker Souaibou Marou.
The Soweto giants headed to social media to announce their new signing on Thursday and Marou joins from Coton Sport.
Having also formed part of the Cameroon squad for the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the lanky forward comes to the South African club expected to bang in goals.
Media reports surfaced late last year that Marou was on his way to Pirates but Coton Sport prematurely leaked it, annoying Pirates and Marou’s agent Mike Makaab in the process.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Souaibou Marou from Coton Sport,” said Pirates in a tweet.
“The 22-year-old has secured a deal that will see him at the Club until 2025,” read a statement from Pirates.
“Marou comes to South Africa on the back of a three-year stint with his former club, Coton Sport, winning two league titles in the process, including the Player of the Season award in 2022.
“His form in the Cameroonian league didn’t go unnoticed as he was selected to the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad that competed in Qatar.
“The Cameroonian international, who concluded his deal with the club yesterday afternoon, will join his new teammates this morning.”
Entertainment SA Sport understands that Marou is highly recommended having won the Player of the Year award in his native land after helping Coton Sport to their first league title in a while.

“I feel sorry for Radiopane & all the South African young star players who dream of playing for Orlando Pirates. Well done to Kaizer Chiefs & Mamelodi Sundowns for giving opportunities to South African young players.”
Under coach Jose Riveiro, Pirates will welcome Stellenbosch FC in their upcoming league match at Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
