On Sunday evening, the crème de la crème of the African music business came on Dakar, Senegal, for the eighth All-Africa Music Awards (Afrimas).
The annual awards ceremony, which was founded by the International Committee Afrima in partnership with the African Union, saw Nigerian music giants Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid demonstrate that they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, as the three came up big once more.

“Best Male Act in African Inspirational Music – Davido.”
Burna Boy won Album of the Year over South African singers Kabza De Small and Nomfundo Moh, as well as Artiste of the Year over Zakes Bantwini and Kabza.
Wizkid, on the other hand, was named Best Act in West Africa, and Davido was named Best Male Act in African Inspirational Music for his smash tune “Stand Strong,” which included the Sunday Service Choir.
Davido also won Best African Collaboration and Best Artiste in the African Contemporary category. In addition, Davido and Focalistic were named Best Duo/Group in African Electro.
In other news, Nigerian newcomer Asake was named Breakout Artiste of the Year, beating out Costa Titch, Daliwonga, and Pheelz.
“It started as a dream, but today it’s a reality,” said the “Joha” hitmaker during his acceptance speech. “Thanks to God, my label and to all my fans listening to my songs.”
The night featured performances by Black Sherif, Psquare, and Tiwa Savage, among others. “.@blacksherifperformance ‘s at the @afrimaofficial (AFRIMA’s) in Dakar, Senegal over the weekend.”
