Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has vowed that they will do everything in their power to win the Nedbank Cup trophy.
Currently held by Mamelodi Sundowns, Amakhosi are gunning for the title as they look to dethrone Sundowns as the reigning champions.
Speaking after the Last 16 draw this week, Bvuma admits that talk amongst the camp is to break their eight-year trophy drought this term.
Amakhosi reached the next stage of the competition after beating a 10-man Maritzburg United 2-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium last Friday with Christian Saile and Ashley du Preez finding the back of the net.
Under the guidance of coach Arthur Zwane, the Soweto giants are now pitted against a Mostepe Foundation outfit, Casric FC.
Their next opponents are unknown figures of the competition this year, having entered the professional ranks this season after the status acquisition of Free State Stars in the second tier.
“They’ve been doing so well in their league, they’re number one, and I believe they didn’t get there on luck, they have been doing so well,” Bvuma said.
“I watched some of their games because we have some of our loanees there at Casric, so we’re looking forward to the game and we know very well it’s not going to be easy – there are no easy teams in this competition, the so-called lower division teams are the most difficult.
“Look what happened to SuperSport against Dondol Stars, you know? So we’re looking forward to the game and very much aware of what’s coming, we’ll just go out there and give our best.”
The experienced goalkeeper also confirmed there have been some discussions amongst the team to guard against being embarrassed by a lower-league team.
“Yes we have spoken about it], not only the lower league teams because it was a draw, maybe we could have been against any PSL team, we were just waiting for the draw and looking forward to whoever we were going to play,” Bvuma continued.
“We know as players that we need to break this trophy drought, it’s been eight years since we won a trophy, so we’re looking forward to this fixture, this game, and performing, going all the way.
“Before signing for Chiefs we knew there’s a lot of pressure here, so we’re aware of it, we’re aware we’ve not won a trophy in eight years, so it doesn’t get to us, we have to try and just go out there and give our best, hopefully, we can break this drought.”
However, before focusing on the Like Yona clash, Chiefs will have to meet their DStv Premiership counterparts this weekend when they host Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
