Caiphus Semenya is said to want royalties from AKA’s team

Rapper AKA is well-known for sampling a few tracks to build his numerous successes. One of the musicians whose songs he sampled is enraged and demands payments. Caiphus Semenya, a legendary jazz musician, alleges that the late rapper copied two of his tracks without his consent.

According to Sunday World, Caiphus Semenya is requesting 50% royalties from these two tracks. According to the press, the jazz musician then utilised these two tracks on two of his albums.

Without specifying which of the two tracks he is talking to, he alleges the rapper did so without his consent.

AKA’s recent blockbuster album contains multiple samples. It was declared Gold within days after its debut and was shown on billboards around the country.

He collaborates with Nadia Nakai, Khuli Chana, Blxckie, Emtee, Yanga Chief, and Thato Sual, as well as Sjava for the first time.

AKA has pushed Mass Country in recent years, wanting it to be the largest record in the country. His crew laboured and continues to work hard to ensure that the record achieves the success that AKA envisioned.

Lynn Forbes, his mother, addressed during the CD listening event, stating that her son worked really hard on the record,  “Kiernan was so proud of Mass Country. As a family it was a pleasure to see his music’s evolution over the years. He played us this album over and over again. We’re happy the world finally gets to hear it.”

“AKA was one of the few people who could be classified as a South African Hip Hop megastar and we are honoured to be able to continue to share his music with his fans both in South Africa and all over the world,” says Warren Bokwe, Lead Music Strategy, and Operations for Spotify Sub-Saharan Africa.

She encouraged his fan base, The Megacy, to carry on his legacy,”  “If Kiernan had the opportunity to ask anything from us right now what would it be? Knowing the person and father he has grown into, I believe Kiernan would ask of me and you to continue loving the people he loved and to preserve his memory and legacy forever … so when Kairo’s friends in the future ask her who her dad was she would be able to answer … Let me show you who my dad is

“I continue, to humbly request, that you help our family create the memories that will fill the future gaps for Kairo, by sharing your stories and personal experiences about her dad, her hero, on social media or anywhere possible …. where in future, when she has access to the social media platforms, she will experience him through your stories and your outpour of love,” said Lynn.
