Talk Show Host, Jerry Springer, Dies at 79

The former Cincinnati mayor and TV host has died at 79 years old.

Springer was known for his outrageous show, ‘The Jerry Springer Show.’

A lifelong friend and family spokesperson, Jene Galvin, said in a statement, “Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word. He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”

According to E!News, the host of The Jerry Springer Show died of pancreatic cancer. Jerry passed away at his Chicago home on April 27. His family described in their statement that Springer suffered a brief illness.

Springer was honoured with a billboard outside his studio in Connecticut featuring his catchphrase, “Take care of yourself and each other.”

In 2010 the TV host once told CNN in an interview, that he doesn’t mind being called a “grandfather of trash TV,” as “The Jerry Springer Show” celebrated its 20th anniversary on the air: “It’s probably accurate. I don’t know what the award for that is, but I think it is true that we were probably one of the first shows to present some of the outrageousness we have.”

Springer also competed in Dancing With the Star in 2006 and The Masked Singer in 2022. He also hosted shows such as Judge Jerry, Tabloid With Jerry Springer, Baggage and America’s Got Talent.

From 1977 to 1978 Springer served as mayor of Cincinnati Ohio and also anchored Cincinnati television station WLWT in the ’80s and ’90s.
