Is Tom Ford ready to say his farewell to the fashion industry?
Almost three decades after he transformed Gucci into one of the most successful brands in the fashion industry. After his departure from Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent 20 years ago, Ford announced he was going to make movies; 13 years later, he returned to the fashion industry under his own brand.
Tom Ford has revealed his final collection named “Tom Ford Archive“; the fall 2023 collection features a re-issued version of his designs in the past 13 years, from his 2010 womenswear debut up to the present day. The retirement announcement comes after the proclaim fashion designer and his partner, Domenico De Sole, sold the brand to Estée Lauder for $2.8 billion.
The collection’s campaign and videos are shot by Steve Klein, the brand’s long-time collaborator, and features models such as Karlie Kloss, Amber Valletta, Karen Elson, Joan Smalls and Caroline Trentini.
Wednesday, 26 April 2023, Tom Ford released the archive pieces on their website, without their usual brand activation marketing. With this collection, Tom Ford bids his final farewell, despite being expected to remain creative director until the end of 2023.
The collection includes some of Ford’s most celebrated designs, such as a white gown worn by Gwyneth Paltrow to the 2012 Oscars, and a sheer black lace gown from the 2020 runway collection worn by Gigi Hadid.
Even though no statement has been shared by the household name it is believed this will be his ‘final collection’. It is not clear if the designer will be stepping away from the fashion industry or if he will remain in the shadows. According to the News York Times, Tom Ford declined any requests for comment and “Neither Estée Lauder nor Zegna, which has the license for Tom Ford fashion, could be reached for comment.”
