We now know that Miss Tina Turner was an icon not just for her rock and roll music, but also for her costumes, which were all fun, glam, and saucy. Entertainment SA takes a look at one of Turner’s iconic outfits.
- A Fav of ours
This style did make a comeback as you can see it at every party, with girls rocking dresses inspired by this number.
- Sparkle Like Dynamite
Okay, This number I’m sure it inspired one of the Kardashians Met Gala look. The costume was created by Bob Mackie in 1978. Mackie said, “Sparkle like dynamite.” “We made this big feathered back-piece that goes on her shoulders for her entrance,” Mackie said. “Nobody’s as exciting on stage as Tina. She’s just a whirling dervish of excitement.”
- Legs For Days/ Slits so High
Now this dress is IT, a definite revenge dress, not to mention the iconic performance she gave. This was Turner’s major comeback after her split from husband and music partner, Ike Turner, with her glamorous rock ‘n’ roll shows.
- Black Tie with A Twist
Turner has always been all about glitzy glamorous sexy dresses but let’s take a moment to admire these high-waisted mom jeans and button-down white shirt and the black tie just gives it that masculine vibe with a twist.
- Did someone say high slit?
“Tina didn’t have any money at the time; she’d buy these really cheap evening gowns in jersey [material] when she was in Europe and bring them in,” Bob Mackie, the designer of sparkly white dress, told Billboard. “I’d stand in front of the mirror with her and would just start cutting. She’d say ‘a little higher here,’ and I’d cut and then we’d pull it open and tack it down.”
- All About Sparkles
As she attends the Giorgio Armani fashion show in 2012, miss Tina still rocked her signature style––Sparkles and Shimmer.
- Black Lace
Tina wore a glamorous black lace jumpsuit on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 1997.
- Mom Jeans
We know the mom jeans are a THING now, everyone owns a pair, but Tina helped usher in the mom jean craze in the ’90s.
- Cut-Out Dress
We see the girlies rocking the cutout dress but Miss Tina did it first and she rocked it. Tina collaborated with her friend, legendary designer Azzedine Alaïa, in an interview Tina said Alaïa’s clothes were “unlike anyone else’s clothes; very special.”
- Sheer Naked Dress
Before “naked dresses” became standard on the red carpet, Tina was the trendsetter, wearing plunging, sheer, cutout naked dresses on stage.
