Cell C Sharks hand ex-Springboks winger Aphiwe Dyantyi a lifeline

News coming from Durban is that former Springboks star Aphiwe Dyantyi has been handed a lifeline by Cell C Sharks.

Dyantyi’s move has been confirmed by the Durban franchise on Tuesday and he will look to revive his ailing rugby career.

The 28-year-old played 13 Tests for the current world champions between 2018 and 2019 before his career was halted by a four-year doping ban.

Born in Engcobo in the Eastern Cape, Dyantyi will soon become eligible to play again and the Sharks have wasted no time acquiring the speedster’s services.

“I only promise to give my best to the jersey,” he commented.

He said he has been in Durban for quite some now and he has seen what the Sharks mean to the people.

His mission is to contribute to that, and he has seen the pride that the people have, adding that he would like to honour that in all he does for the team.

Prior to his move to Durban, the former Dale College student was on the books of the Gauteng Lions and was a star for the Johannesburg franchise in Super Rugby.

However, his rugby career ground to a screeching halt when he was banned from all forms of the game just before the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The developments came after Dyantyi’s mandatory B sample came back testing positive for three banned substances following a national training camp and he was sidelined.

The 28-year-old speedy winger has scored six tries in his 13 Tests for the Boks and will sadly miss the global showpiece in France this year.
