Celebrating the annual World Environment Day, the Miss Earth South Africa Leadership Development Programme added a twist to their day when they embarked on new grand partnerships.
These partnerships include Southern Sun, Wild Route Trees and GebCo 3Sixty compost. They to take on a tree-planting initiative and community clean-up to promote environmental stewardship at Matiwane Combined School in Orange Farm.
Not moving out of the United Nations Environment Programme’s theme for 2023, #BeatPlasticPollution, Miss Earth South Africa reiterated on the importance of individual responsibility in addressing plastic pollution.
The organisation highlighted the need for people being able to account for their waste footprint, and that they should always strive to reuse and recycle.
The director of Miss Earth South Africa, Ella Bella Leite, said: “Ending plastic pollution requires the involvement of every individual. Together, we can make a difference #ForPeopleForPlanet,”
On the other hand, head of corporate affairs, brands and marketing for Southern Sun, Candy Tothill added by saying how though this partnership, they would like to teach more people to be more aware of their environment and play their part in saving the planet.
“By combining our efforts with those of the Miss Earth South Africa programme, we aim to motivate individuals and communities to actively participate in environmental behaviours and initiatives that we believe are necessary for a more sustainable future,” she added.
Saving the planet really doesn’t require a lot of work. It starts with small things like teaching children about littering and yourself throwing your things in the correct dustbin.
