Shaka Ilembe hits the screens and viewers cant get over it!

The MultiChoice Group has premiered its largest-ever prime-time drama series, Shaka Ilembe, and the viewers cannot get enough of it.

This 12-part show takes over from the strong origins story of the legendary African monarch and military strategist, King Shaka. This highly anticipated drama series has been in the making for 7 years, and it features South Africa’s biggest stars, including Nomzamo Mbatha who has starred on big productions, such as Coming 2 America fame.

By the time the series went live, it had already made a great name for itself beyond the continent, with MultiChoice Studios promoting it to international buyers at renowned film markets.

The CEO of Multitichoice Group, Nomsa Philiso said the cast gave it their all. There is not a single person that they cast that did not appreciate being on the production and it’s just been truly humbling.

Shaka Ilembe showcases the country’s stunning landscapes, including the mountains, savannah, and coastline of KwaZulu Natal, with Lemogang Tsipa as King Shaka Zulu, and Nomzamo as Queen Nandi.

“We wanted to tell it [the story] from the perspective of where the man came from and we are going to tell it in our own language, in the way that we believe can be as authentic as possible.” – Philiso added. She also revealed that one of the challenges the team encountered was how to tell the story in their own way because many of the previous stories were told at the height of Shaka’s reign.

The team strongly relied on historians and as well as the royal family to tell the story. The actors for this hit series include Lemogang Tsipa, Senzo Radebe, Wiseman Mncube, Thembinkosi Mthembu, Mondli Makhoba, Khabonina Qubeka, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Dawn Thandeka King, and newcomer Hope Mbhele. Ntando Zondi shines as the young boy destined to become King.
