JoyRukanza takes listeners on a grand voyage of self-love with debut album MatterMoreForSis

New school, alternative artist JoyRukanza releases her highly anticipated debut album MatterMoreForSis, which is a musical journey through a woman’s different experiences with unrequited love. Playing on the double entendre of the title. MatterMoreForSis narrates a love story where the protagonist transitions from experiencing the grief of heartbreak and the anger and other emotions felt during this loss, towards self acceptance, growth, and recovery that comes with the maturity, and the recognition of one’s self worth and value despite the neverending ups and downs life may bring.

The eleven-track album features South African artists Azanaand  Kid X on tracks 3 and 10 respectively, showcasing Joy’s dynamic ability to compose and collaborate on well-crafted sonic experiences across regions and genres. MatterMoreForSis, which has been an ongoing project for three years, (delayed by the global Covid-19 pandemic), is a dynamic fusion of distinct tempos, tones, rhythms and songs that move you through the protagonist’s transformation as you listen.

Through this project, JoyRukanza appeals to women to find the strength to abandon unfortunate situations, take inventory of what matters to them, and prioritize that. She is simply saying matter more for yourself, sister. #MatterMoreForSis.

From ballads, paeans and up-tempo tunes to get you moving during this grand voyage through love (and everything in between), MatterMoreForSis dishes the unexpected visually, and melodically from an artist who might be a newcomer to the scene, but is certainly not a novice to using her voice and lyrical repertoire to entice the ears.

On the release of her album, Joy had this to say: “This project has been ongoing for nearly three years and will finally be available for the world to hear on my birthday. What a full-circle moment! I have worked with the most amazing human beings in the world and learned so much. I’m grateful for your patience and support and cannot wait for you to hear my story”.
