The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is making the big return after a four-year hiatus.
The brand is bring back the brand is bringing back this fall, with a twist. The Victoria’s Secret World Tour recently revealed that the show will be streaming on Prime Video on Sept. 26.
This year will be different though, as it won’t just be a fashion show. The press release mentioned that The Tour is set to be a documentary as well as a fashion event. Overall, the brand’s goal is to “uplift and champion women.” The events take place across Bogota, Lagos, London and Tokyo.
Right after the stream, fans and customers will get the opportunity to shop a tour-inspired collection on VictoriasSecret.com and get Prime delivery when shopping in the Victoria’s Secret Amazon storefront.
The brand has initially announced back in March that it would be revamping the fashion show. Timothy Johnson, who is the Chief financial officer, revealed the news during the company’s 2022 earnings call earlier this year. Retail Dive was the first outlet to cover the update.
Johnson said they are going to continue to lean into the marketing spend to invest in the business, both at top-of-funnel and also to support the new version of our fashion show, which is to come later this year.
Talking to PEOPLE over the weekend, a spokesperson for Victoria’s Secret & Co. said the company is committed to championing women and is “always innovating and ideating in all spheres of the business to continue to put our customer at the centre of all we do.”
“As we’ve previously shared, our new brand projection and mission will continue to be our guiding principle,” the statement read. “This will lead us into new spaces like reclaiming one of our best marketing and entertainment properties to date and turning it on its head to reflect who we are today. We’re excited to share more later this year.”
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was cancelled in November 2019 at the time of the Victoria’s Secret Angel title being dropped, thanks to criticism that the brand didn’t embrace models of all sizes and backgrounds. The company also received a lot of backlash in February 2020 after a report published by The New York Times accused the brand’s former officer Ed Razek of sexual harassment, bullying and creating a culture of misogyny.
This show was first held in August 1995, before running 23 more times in the years to follow — with the exception of 2004.
During its run for two-decade, the show had performances from the likes of Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Destiny’s Child, Usher, Justin Timberlake, and others — incorporating a performance element into the runway starting in 2001.
