Monyetta Shaw-Carter, who is the ex-fiancé and mother of two children for the RnB singer, Ne-Yo, has finally opened up about why they went their separate ways back in 2013.
The 43 year old actress revealed that she engaged in in ‘threesomes with Ne-Yo’ during while they were in a relationship, but it became a problem when he wanted it ‘a lot’. Sitting down for an interview for the podcast titled ‘Haus of Aaron’, she said she told the musician: “If you want that, then you don’t want me.” She said she tried to keep it cute and spicy, but it wasn’t enough.
The two stars started dating in 2009 and got engaged, but parted ways in 2013 two months before their wedding. They have two children together which are Madilyn, 12, and Mason, 11. The conversation started after she mentioned that originally she was offered a spot in the Real Housewives of Atlanta season five while she was with Ne-Yo, but he told her his management said it would ‘ruin his career.’ Season five of RHOA aired between 2012-2013.
She added: “When I was with my children’s father, I was supposed to be on the Housewives. It was the year Kenya [Moore] and Portia [Williams] came in. Everything… agreed… We agreed. And then, a few weeks after he [ Ne-yo] came back after. “No. My management said it’s going to ruin my career,” and I chose family because that’s what I do. I’m all about family. But, child, if I would have known he was going to pull this mess I would have been like… baby…”
Monyetta also revealed that she had offered to pay for their wedding but she declined because she chose her family over it. She said everybody talking about why.. it could have been back then but God’s got a plan and timing. It’s timing. At the current moment, Monyetta stars on season 15 of RHOA, having made her debut the season prior as Kandi Burruss’ friend (in 2022).
When the host asked if Ne-Yo was cheating, Monyetta said: “Well, he wasn’t ready. We cheated together if that makes sense and then it just wasn’t enough. And then I was like, well no I didn’t sign up to do this every day….”
Wanting to get clarity on whether or not they both cheated then, Monyetta said: “No baby I mean… you know like… we did things together. It’s not cheating if you’re involved with it. Like the little [Monyetta puts up three fingers to signify a threesome].” She also mentioned that she is multi-faceted and added by saying: “And that’s where I was at that time but it became a problem when you want that a lot. Maybe I’ll give you twice a year you know three times but it’s like too much. You know, it was always making it seem like I’m not enough. I’m like ok well I grew up with a loving father thank God and loving mother, so I know my self-worth.”
She said all she wanted was to be married with kids for a long time, because that’s she saw even with her parents. “And so I was devastated – but yeah I tried to keep it cute and spicy and stuff – but it wasn’t enough. And it is what it is. So I knew the plan was coming later just trust the process.” – she added.
Speaking about her husband, Heath Carter, whom she married in November 2021, Monyetta said: “He see me baby. He sees me and it feels amazing.”
