Celebrities have been sharing their thoughts on the war between Israel and Hamas.
And with tensions high, celebrities need to tread carefully because the court of public opinion is alive and kicking. Actress and singer Selena Gomez is the latest celebrity to get in hot water for her remarks on the war. She posted on her Instagram stories saying her “heart breaks to see all of the horror, violence and terror going on in the world.” Gomez said for those reasons, she will be taking a break from social media as the ongoing violence affected her mental health.
Fans found Selena’s post insensitive, saying only Gomez would make the genocide about herself. Another user said Gomez has one of the biggest platforms on social media and wasn’t using it effectively. Other fans came out in support of Gomez, saying she should enjoy her time away from the social streets.
At least 1,400 people have lost their lives in Israel as of October 31 2023, as reported by the Associated Press. More than 8,500 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
