Leading global technology brand HONOR, recently hosted the launch of the HONOR X9b 5G phone in Johannesburg. We were invited to attend the launch and man oh man what a time we had.
We arrived at Atlas Studios in Joburg and the entire space was painted orange. Participants got the chance to smash the screen of the HONOR X9b 5G to prove just how strong the screen is. The one lucky person amongst the attendees who could smash the phone won a cash prize of R25 000 while the runner ups won the HONOR 90 phone as well as HONOR Watch.
The three stations
Participants were shown three stations: Station 1- Smash boundaries, Station 2- Smash negativity and Station 3- Smash the ordinary where they would attempt to win their share of the money.
Station 1 had a wrecking ball that we were allowed to hit the phone with. Yes, we hit a brand new phone with an actual wrecking ball to see whether we could smash the screen.
Station 2 was where we could hold the phone in the air and drop it to the floor. Exactly in that order. The point was for us to see how long it would take to break the phone.
Station 3 had an arrangement of white work shirts with the phone placed in the front pocket of one of the shirts. Participants had to use a paintball gun to attempt to smash the screen. Many missed the mark. This proved to be the most difficult of all the challenges because it had to be changed to make it easier. There was no winner at this station.
This was an interactive launch on another level. Each participant got involved. They looked forward to getting their opportunity to try smash the phone.
What was interesting though was that it took some time to find the winners. Given that most people’s phones have cracked screens, you would expect the phone dropping station to be the first to get a winner but it was actually the last.
The first station that got a winner was the wrecking ball station, meaning the winner for the R25 000 cash prize was found. We were happy for the winner, but not really. We all clapped for the winner but the envy! Then, the second winner was found at the phone dropping station, followed by the third winner at the same station.
The event saw the appearance of popular South African singer Sjava, who came to try his chance at some of the phone smashing activities. He didn’t win, but he gets an A for effort.
All in all, the #HONORBeyondLimitsExperience was truly an experience.
It was a fun way to experiment and test out the durability of the HONOR X9b 5G phone.
