The American broadcaster and media personality, Howard Stern recently decided to make a joke about the joker, our very own Trevor Noah when he imitated the South African comedian’s hosting style at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on his SiriusXM show, suggesting that he played it safe by avoiding negative comments.
Stern and co-host Robin Quivers discussed how Noah might have aimed for a more positive approach, possibly influenced by the recent controversy surrounding Jo Koy’s hosting of the Golden Globes.
Stern highlighted Noah’s tendency to praise everyone, even going so far as to parody the host’s admiration for 21 Savage, jokingly emphasizing the rapper’s virtues. Stern jokingly quoted Noah as declaring Doja Cat the new Jesus and playfully praised her album “Scarlet” and her single “Paint the Town Red.”
Acknowledging the challenges of hosting an awards show as a comedian, Stern Noah was in a difficult spot. Stern recognized that Noah had to navigate carefully and joked that Noah should be given a baton for his efforts, referring to the challenging task of hosting an event where making jokes can be risky.
Stern concluded by acknowledging the tough position Noah was in and empathizing with the need to deliver positive comments given the potential backlash faced by comedians who take a more critical approach.
