After a two-year hiatus, American rapper, singer, and songwriter, Doja Cat went back onto the Coachella stage as a headliner, and boy, did she bring the heat! Outdoing her 2022 performance, this year’s show was a spectacle of backup dancers, lasers, flames, and all-around wild visuals.
Kicking off her arty set with “Acknowledge Me,” Doja Cat stood tall on a podium behind the soundboard, rocking a white hazmat suit.
The transition to “Shutcho,” led by the five male singers of South African acapella group The Joy, set the stage ablaze with a nuclear power plant setting. Throughout the performance, Doja’s long blonde hair seamlessly blended into her wardrobe, adding to the visual feast.
As the night heated up, so did Doja’s performance. From the sexually alluring “F**k the Girls (FTG)” to the seductive “Gun” and “OKLOSER,” she owned the stage in white lingerie and thigh-high boots, accompanied by her male dancers.
Special guest 21 Savage joined her for “n.h.i.e.,” adding another layer of excitement. But even with the desert wind blowing through, Doja’s shift to a funny top and bikini bottom during “Attention” didn’t dampen the mood.
As the set progressed, “97” and “Balut” transported the audience to the 1920s, with Doja in a long white fur coat and a cigarette holder, surrounded by dancers in black.
The show reached its peak when Teezo Touchdown emerged during “MASC,” wearing spiked football shoulder pads. Doja finally acknowledged the crowd, carrying what appeared to be a bottle of whiskey, smashing it as fireworks shot up in the air, and ascending to the top of the stage for “Streets.”
A large T-Rex skeleton appeared during “WYM Freestyle,” adding an extra thrill. A$AP Rocky joined her for “URRRGE!!!!!!!!!,” and as she wrapped up with “Paint The Town Red” and “Wet Vagina,” the crowd was left in awe.
Despite the lack of guest appearances, Doja Cat’s artistry as both a singer and rapper shone brightly throughout the show, making it a performance to remember.
