EFF leader Julius Malema took to social media to share some highlights from his eldest son Ratanang’s matric dance. The proud father posted photos and a video on Instagram, showing off his son’s preperations for the big night and their arrival in a Mercedes G-Wagon worth R3.3 million.
The footage also captures Ratanang, aka “Rati,” meeting up with friends at a luxurious mansion before heading to the dance with their glamorous partners. Ratanang, who celebrated his 17th birthday last October, attends the prestigious St David’s Marist Inanda, a private Catholic boys’ school in Johannesburg. He is Malema’s son from his previous relationship with Maropeng Ramohlale.
Malema is estimated to be paying around R170,000 for Ratanang’s matric year, or R16,000 per month, based on the school’s fee structure. He has two other sons, Munzhedzi (eight) and Kopano (six), with his wife Mantwa Matlala, whom he married in 2014.
In the video, Malema is seen helping Rati with his tie and sleek black suit, with family members and one of his son’s friends also making appearances.
The EFF leader, whose eldest shares his passion for DJing, captioned the post: “Yesterday was a memorable and exciting experience. I had the pleasure of assisting my eldest son as he prepared for his matric dance and became his chauffeur.”
“Our success is largely due to the fact that our ancestors never taught us to be envious, hateful or jealous,” Malema added.
He concluded his post by saying, “I am proud to say that the event was executed beautifully, and my son did an incredible job.”
Comments from Malema’s Instagram followers praised the father-son duo, with remarks like “Fresh, clean, class” and “Lowkey, a real dripper.”
Last October, Malema shared his excitement about Ratanang taking on a leadership role at his school, leading a “battalion” in song with a “war cry.” He posted a video of the moment, emphasizing the gradual process of leadership through small steps, discipline, and resilience.
Malema and Ratanang have been seen bonding together regularly, with a video from a year ago showing them DJing and enjoying themselves at a private party.
