Mr Ibu will be buried in June, weeks after his passing

With heavy hearts, the family of the late Nollywood actor, John Okafor known to many as Mr Ibu, has announced his burial date.

Mr. Ibu passed away on the 2nd March 2024, and had endured the amputation of his leg following a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness.

The family has decided that the final resting place for the esteemed actor will be his hometown of Amuri, nestled in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. In a statement issued by Ibu’s brother, Elder Sunday Okafor, it was expressed that the departed would be laid to rest as a hero.

“The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State wishes to honor the loving memory of our hero and a legend, John Ikechukwu Okafor, who even in death has left a legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness,” the statement reads.

“We would appreciate your esteemed presence as we lay to rest our son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law on the 28th of June 2024. Kindly join us as we share the best and last moments with our icon,” the statement further stated.

The burial proceedings will commence on Tuesday, June 25th, with a somber novelty match, followed by a session titled Mr. Ibu’s Night on Wednesday, June 26th, featuring a candlelight procession and live entertainment.

A Christian Wake will be held on June 27th at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, leading up to the funeral service on June 28th.

The 5-day burial ceremony will draw to a close on Sunday, June 30th, with a Church Thanksgiving, where family members, friends, and well-wishers will gather to pay their final respects.
