Benny McCarthy – SA’s top goal Scorer in Sundowns Coaching Discussions

The only South African football player to have a UEFA Champions League title win in his resume’, Benny McCarthy, is in advanced discussions with South African Premier League champions Sundowns, regarding their vacant coaching slot.

McCarthy who is still ranked as the South African National squad’s top goal scorer with 31 goals to his name, has recently departed a coaching position at the Red Devils and is reported to be in discussions with SA’s top tier champion team to take over as head Coach.

The rumor mills are throwing out a high-end salary of R2 million a month and this would be the highest salary for a SA based premier league coach ever paid. Pitso Mosimane was the previous highest paid with a salary of R1,5 million a month during his contract there.

McCarthy comes with a wealth of experience, both as a player and now as a coach and previously took Amazulu to second position in the CAF league and qualified for the CAF champions league.

His knowledge of how players need to be unified and a cohesive unit, as well as his firm belief in player professionalism, discipline and commitment, should be a good match to the SA champion team.

McCarthy in a recent interview with Fut-Afrique, said he is itching for the opportunity to take the helm as head coach, being able to lean on the invaluable knowledge and experience he gained while at Manchester United as an assistant coach.
