Busta Rhymes, the legendary rapper known for his high-energy rhymes and unapologetic persona, made headlines for a different reason this week.
The 52-year-old turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday, facing multiple assault charges after an alleged altercation with his 50-year-old assistant.
The incident, which occurred last Friday in Brooklyn, is now the subject of an investigation.
According to reports from TMZ, law enforcement sources said the incident started as a verbal dispute around 10am in the J Condominium complex in the hip Dumbo neighborhood. Busta allegedly confronted his assistant over what’s being described as an “unprofessional” act — using his phone while at work.
What began as a disagreement soon escalated, leading to a physical altercation.
Sources claim Busta punched his assistant multiple times, leaving him with noticeable swelling around his left eye.
After the altercation, the assistant reportedly dialed 911, prompting police and paramedics to rush to the scene. He was then transported to a nearby hospital to treat his injuries.
Busta, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., did not stay on the run for long.
He turned himself in to authorities a few days later, where he was issued a desk appearance ticket.
The charges against him include misdemeanor assault in the third degree, attempted assault, and harassment. Rhymes is expected to face these charges in court soon.
As more details continue to emerge, fans and the public alike are left to wonder what exactly went down between the rapper and his assistant in that luxury Brooklyn condo.
Stay tuned as the situation unfolds.
