Roger Nores, a close friend of Liam Payne who was with the singer during his final days in Buenos Aires, is suing Liam’s father, Geoff Payne, for defamation.
The lawsuit follows allegations made by Geoff that Roger failed to care for Liam before his death.
Roger has filed a defamation lawsuit against Geoff, claiming he was wrongly portrayed in the media after Liam’s passing.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Geoff submitted a sworn statement to Buenos Aires police suggesting Roger had “full responsibility for Liam’s care during this last period.”
However, Roger strongly denies the claim, stating in the lawsuit that he “never agreed to be and was never the caretaker of Liam.” He acknowledges their deep friendship and mutual support, but clarifies it was never a formal caregiving arrangement.
“In the lawsuit, Roger calls out Geoff for failing to share several emails between himself and Roger.
“In one dated August 2024, Roger says he told Geoff he ‘could not further as a friend devote the same time to support Liam’ and that Geoff needed to take action regarding Liam’s condition … a reference to the One Direction singer’s battles with addiction.”
In addition, Roger reveals that, in August 2024, he informed Geoff that he could no longer devote the same level of time and support to Liam, advising that Geoff needed to take action regarding his son’s ongoing struggles with addiction.
Roger claims that, despite their conversation, Geoff failed to intervene.
According to Roger, the two spoke again in September 2024, when he urged Geoff to come to Wellington, Florida — where Liam was living at the time — and take charge of Liam’s care.
Roger says, to the best of his knowledge, Geoff never made the trip.
This lawsuit comes at a time when Roger is also facing charges from Buenos Aires prosecutors, who accuse him of abandoning Liam shortly before his death.
Roger continues to maintain his innocence, insisting that he was a supportive friend but not responsible for Liam’s care.
