Did you know that you can listen to Hip-Hop music the whole day in South Africa? Well DJ Speedsta has something just for you, and that’s called ‘The Hip-Hop Floor’.
This past Saturday, Entertainment SA attended the monthly ‘The Hip-Hop Floor’—a monthly refreshing, laid-back space where fans can enjoy the music without having to dodge flying sneakers.

The celebrated DJ and culture curator, Speedsta made it clear to Entertainment SA that this isn’t just another party, it’s an experience, and most importantly, a safe space for Hip-Hop lovers who want to enjoy the culture in a more relaxed setting.
Speedsta told Entertainment SA that he started the movement as a DJ who wanted to play Hip-Hop for about 20 of his friends, and it grew to a monthly event. “So yeah, it’s about Hip Hop. It’s about just me as a DJ having a space to play, not having to play the same thing. So if you go to parties, you’ll hear that Hip Hop DJs play the same music. All eyes on me, not the songs. Because that’s the only space there is for Hip Hop at an event. So here we go, Hip Hop the whole day. We just gather, it’s a community, there’s no VIP, there’s no Mr. Cool Guy here.” – he said.

The Hip-Hop Floor will be celebrating a year next year in March. The ‘Mayo’ hitmaker also mentioned that big venues scared him at first because he initially wanted to keep everything authentic, but those venues are good for the event because the community is growing.
We also caught up with the legendary Khuli Chana, who headlined the event. Speaking to Entertainment SA, the ‘Tswa Daa’ hitmaker said The Hip-Hop Floor feels like a homecoming event.
