Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone, best known for her hit song “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” and as a member of the all-female hip-hop trio The Sequence, tragically died in a car crash early Saturday morning at the age of 63.
According to reports, Stone was traveling back to Atlanta from Alabama when the van she was in flipped over around 4:25 a.m. on Interstate 65, before being struck by a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck driven by a 33-year-old man from Texas.
The Alabama Highway Patrol confirmed the details in a news release, stating that Stone was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred approximately 5 miles south of Montgomery’s city limits.
Stone’s representative, Deborah R. Champagne, told TMZ that the singer had just left a performance in Montgomery, Alabama, when the accident occurred.
TMZ also reports that Stone was one of nine people in the van, which included her crew and backup singers. The crash took place on Interstate 65 in Montgomery County, and Stone was the only fatality.
She was en route from the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association Grand Marshal’s Ball to a performance at the CIAA basketball tournament in Baltimore when the tragic incident happened.
The singer-songwriter crafted iconic hits such as “No More Rain (In This Cloud),” which topped Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart for 10 weeks, “Baby” with legendary soul singer Betty Wright, another No. 1 hit, as well as the timeless tracks “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” and “Brotha.”
