Adulting S3: The Gents Are Pushed to Their Limits by the Women in Their Lives

As the final episodes of Adulting Season 3 approaches, one thing is clear: the dynamics have shifted, and the women have taken the lead. This season has been a game-changer, with the men once at the centre of the drama now finding themselves on the receiving end of the consequences of their past actions. The ladies in their lives are no longer sitting quietly—they’re commanding their space, and the men are feeling the heat.

A New Season, A New Power Dynamic

In previous seasons, Bonga, Mpho, Eric, and Vuyani were the ones calling the shots, making decisions that often left the women hurt, frustrated, and struggling. But in Season 3, the women are no longer playing by the men’s rules. The tables have turned, and the power dynamics within the relationships have been completely upended.

Bonga’s wife, Nkanyezi (Londeka Sishi), is standing her ground against Bonga’s desire to have children, despite her being unsure and unready. Meanwhile, Mpho’s ex-wife, Zithulele (Lungile Duma), is making his life harder than ever, keeping him financially and emotionally stretched thin. As if that wasn’t enough, Eric’s girlfriend, Mampho (Gaisang Noge), pushes him to step up while he tries to balance his complicated feelings for her and the lingering presence of Minkie (Samkelo Ndlovu), a woman he can’t seem to let go of.

And then there’s Vuyani, whose new venture, V-UNights, seems to be thriving, thanks to the support of Beth. But Vuyani’s personal life is just as complicated, with a risky affair with another minister’s girlfriend and temptation lingering closer than ever in the form of Beth’s daughter.

These women are rocking the men’s boats and keeping them on their toes, they speak on their roles:

Baby mama drama

Lungile Duma, who plays Mpho’s ex-wife Zithulele, explains how her character has drastically changed this season. “Last season, Zithulele was the nice wife—easy-going and forgiving. This season, she’s bitter and relentless in Mpho’s life. This brings out a version of her that’s rude and aggressive. I believe love can bring out the best or worst versions of yourself, and for Zithu, she’s at her worst.”

Trouble in the Tembe household

Bonga, typically the cool-headed and smooth-talking guy, is now in uncharted territory with his wife, Nkanyezi. Their biggest conflict? Their differing views on having children. Nkanyezi is adamant about not wanting a baby, but Bonga is determined to have one. The tension between them is palpable, and Bonga is left reeling as Nkanyezi refuses to let him have it his way.
Londeka Sishi, who plays Nkanyezi, explains her character’s journey: “I think she makes an effort to really let her walls down. She has fallen in love with Bonga but still has quite a few triggers. We get to see her fight throughout the season.” The shift in the power dynamic between the couple is undeniable, and for the first time, Bonga is the one feeling uncertain in his own home.

Stuck between two women: Halle Berry vs Sarafina

Eric’s relationship with his girlfriend, Mampho, is far from straightforward. Mampho, who started out as Eric’s therapist in Season 2, is now his girlfriend. But Eric is still deeply entangled with Minkie, a woman he can’t seem to fully move on from.
Gaisang K. Noge, who plays Mampho, notes the role the women play in driving the drama this season. “I realised while reading the script that the ladies are the fire behind everything these men are going through, whether good or bad. They’re the ignition to the heat these guys are feeling.”

Mpho’s New Love Interest: Naledi

Mpho’s life gets even more complicated with the introduction of Naledi, played by Mapaseka Koetle. Naledi is a mother and Mpho’s new love interest, and she’s about to stir things up in his life. Mapaseka, best known for her role in Scandal!, teases that Naledi will bring out a different side of Mpho. “I think people will get to see a different side of Mpho because of Naledi,” she says.
Joining Adulting has been a thrilling experience for Koetle. “When I got the call, I was so excited but also nervous. I’ve played Dintle for so long, and I wondered how people would receive me in a different role. But more than anything, I was up for the challenge,” she shares.
