South African media reported on Tuesday, that a Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa is set to take over the club, subject to approval from the Premier Soccer League executive committee.

“SuperSport United are reportedly set for a takeover led by Zimbabwe billionaire Strive Masiyiwa subject to approval from the Premier Soccer League executive committee,” reported the newspaper on Tuesday.

“SuperSport has long been mooted to be sold amidst the reported financial constraints at the club which has notably seen its business model change over the last decade.”

At the same time, Idiski Times ran a story suggesting that another consortium connected to Wits was linked to a potential takeover at the DStv Premiership outfit.

A local football reporter Maskepe Matsebane posted that Masiyiwa is closing in on acquiring the club ahead of the 2022/23 season.

However, the veteran football administrator has set the record straight, indicating that the club is in the right hands and not going to be sold.

“Good afternoon player and staff…SuperSport United has been made aware of the old repeated rumours and speculation regarding the potential sale of the club,” the statement read as per Idiski Times.

“Please note that these rumours are completely untrue. As stated when these false rumours started in 2019, the club is not for sale.

“The club is seeking legal advice on the publications or persons involved in continually issuing these false statements.”
