The South African Premier Soccer League has announced a new partnership with Carling Black Label as the new sponsor for a cup competition known as the Carling Knockout Cup.
PSL chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza unveiled the partnership with the beer maker on Tuesday and said the sponsor replaces Telkom who sponsored the Telkom Knockout Cup.
The ‘Iron Duke’ also confirmed there is a stggering prize money for the cup tournament, saying they are delighted with the development.
Despite not disclosing all the details when it comes to prize money, the Orlando Pirates boss said all the stakeholders are aware of the competition.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, the Telkom Knockout Cup was scrapped and the South African top-flight only had the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 as the only knockout competitions.
“The prize money [of the new competition] is a substantial amount. The shareholders and club owners have not been told. This time around it is good money in terms of fulfilling our obligations,” Khoza said in a statement.
“I’m highly elated and excited to answer the question, ‘What are we doing with the Telkom Cup?’ Today I am happy to announce a new sponsor and partner – a longstanding partner.
“There is a gap in our calendar. Remember, the Telkom used to be played between October and December so there was a gap in that space. We tried to find a balance, and find space to accommodate this partnership [around other calendar considerations].
“The name of the competition will be the Carling Knockout Cup, but in the element of that sponsorship will be the Carling 11, which will be played not far from the date of October/November.
“We have discovered that in December time, people need more football, so we have decided that that element will be played on the 16th of December. We have agreed that there will be a bit of innovation that will go with it…”
