”It Seems Like You’re Ready” was once a song by R Kelly, but today, those were mere words uttered to him by prison authorities when they removed him from suicide watch.
Following a clinical assessment, plaintiff Robert Sylvester Kelly, also known as R. Kelly, was removed from suicide watch as of yesterday July 5, 2022, the government attorneys wrote. Because the plaintiff has already been removed from suicide watch, there is nothing more the court can do for him.
Though a lengthy appeal is still ahead, Kelly was sentenced on June 29 to 30 years in prison. The singer’s attorneys argued that he should receive 10 years or less because he had been abused as a child, but judge Ann Donnelly said she needed to deter any other powerful person who thinks he or she is above the law.
prosecutors told a federal judge on Tuesday, days after the disgraced singer claimed that the special protective treatment was a form of punishment. His attorney Bonjean said R.kelly had expressed he was mentally fine and they were in the process of filing an emergency rule on July 1 “to show cause with the courts,” saying the confinement to suicide watch was illegal.
After decades of accusations of sexual misconduct, R.Kelly was convicted in September on nine counts of racketeering and sex trafficking related to accusations that the singer orchestrated a long-running scheme to recruit and abuse women and underage girls.
R. kelly now awaits his Chicago trial where he is facing child pornography and obstruction of justice charges. If convicted on those charges, he could receive more prison time in addition to the 30 years already meted out to him on the 29th of June 2022
The trial is slated for August 15.
