Orlando Pirates’ Jose Riveiro gives verdict on ‘special’ clash vs Mamelodi Sundowns

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has labelled their upcoming MTN8 clash against Mamelodi Sundowns as a ‘special’ one this weekend.

The Buccaneers as Pirates are known, are looking to end the defending champions, Sundowns’ dominance as the two DStv Premiership giants meet in the semi-finals of the MTN8 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Dubbed one of the biggest clashes in the competition this weekend, Pirates coach is banking on their new arrivals in the form of Kermit Erasmus, Sipho Chaine and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo – and the Spanish manager has praised his troops.

The Soweto giants, Pirates, captured the trio prior to the closing of the transfer window last week and Riveiro believes they will add a lot of value to the team ahead of their important clash against Sundowns.

Erasmus left the Brazilians and he is tipped to provide inside information on his former bosses while Ndlondlo and Chaine came from Chippa United and Marumo Gallants respectively.

“We are happy with the new recruitments, we already have a group of players that have been doing very well. Now there are three more that are coming with the intention to help us and do things better and to be part of a good collective and they will give us some new tune to try to continue winning games,” said the Pirates boss.

“The adaptation is good so far, so they will be available, but, let’s see, we are playing on Saturday so we don’t know yet who will be available or not. It is still a long way to go, but we are happy to have them in the group performing already.”

Looking at is first encounter with the Brazilians at home as they look to gain advantage in the first leg of the Wafa Wafa clash, Riveiro explains why the match is a special one.

“Obviously it’s a special game in a way for all of us, players and the fans, also for the media,” he added.

“We will approach the game as we usually do and we are going to try to have a good day on Saturday. We know that nothing will be decided on Saturday, I don’t think so. But hopefully it is in our favour (Saturday game), but we have to play two games.”
